Assessment & Oral Cancer Screening

At Solange Smiles At Home, every dental hygiene visit begins with a comprehensive oral health assessment tailored to your individual needs. This thorough evaluation helps detect potential concerns early and guides the development of a personalized care plan.

Our assessment includes an oral cancer screening, which involves visually and manually checking for abnormalities in the mouth, lips, cheeks, throat, and gums. Early detection of oral cancer can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment, making this screening a vital part of preventive care—especially for older adults and individuals at higher risk. Additionally, periodontal measurements are conducted annually or bi-annually to monitor gum health. Intra-oral images and X-rays are taken as needed for a thorough evaluation.

We also conduct an oral hygiene evaluation to assess plaque levels, gum health, and overall cleanliness of the teeth and mouth. A cavity risk assessment is performed to identify areas of decay or potential decay based on diet, oral habits, and previous dental history.

Adult Prophylaxis (Teeth Cleaning)

Regular preventive cleanings, also known as adult prophylaxis, are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. At Solange Smiles At Home, we provide professional teeth cleaning services in the comfort of your home, making it easier than ever for seniors, homebound individuals, or those with limited mobility to access high-quality dental hygiene care.

While daily brushing and flossing are essential, they may not be enough to remove plaque and tartar buildup above the gum line. Dental prophylaxis is a preventive cleaning procedure that helps eliminate these deposits, reducing the risk of oral health complications.

However, this procedure is not recommended for patients with significant subgingival deposits, bleeding gums, or periodontal pockets over 4mm. If you are a suitable candidate for dental prophylaxis, we recommend scheduling a routine cleaning every six months or 4 months to maintain optimal oral health.

Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical, deep cleaning procedure designed to treat periodontal (gum) disease by removing harmful bacteria, plaque, and tartar from below the gum line. At Solange Smiles At Home, we offer this advanced dental hygiene treatment directly in your home, making it easier for patients with mobility issues, chronic health conditions, or dental anxiety to receive the care they need.

This treatment is ideal for patients with periodontal pockets that measure 5mm or deeper, which indicate early to moderate stages of gum disease. During the procedure, scaling removes plaque and hardened tartar from the surfaces of the teeth and beneath the gums. Root planing smooths the root surfaces to discourage future buildup and support gum reattachment to the teeth.

Untreated gum disease can lead to bone loss, gum recession, chronic bad breath, and eventual tooth loss. Scaling and root planing is a proactive, essential step in stopping the progression of the disease and restoring gum health.

Following the procedure, patients may be placed on a periodontal maintenance schedule, with cleanings every 3 to 4 months, to prevent reinfection and monitor ongoing gum health.
